Welcome to the website of
The band was extremely disappointed with its result at the Scottish Championships.
Drawn to play number 2, which turned out to be immediately after the eventual winners, Arbroath, the band delivered what was felt to be one of its best contest performances in recent years. Unfortunately, the Adjudicators thought otherwise and the band was finally placed 10th (2nd last).
With no slips from any of the featured soloists, the band members were upbeat and looking forward to a good result when the prizes were announced. The 4 Bars Rest team also appreciated aspects of the performance, commenting in the Retrospectives that ‘Selkirk found it hard to deliver the clarity, in spite of having one of the most stylish cornet players on this piece’.
With many changes to its personnel prior to the contest, it turned out a very young band on stage, which can only mean that we can go from strength to strength. The band also very much enjoyed working with its conductor for the Scottish, Mark Bell, and look forward to continue to study under him.
